Sometimes, I think I have an investing addiction.
Just like people with a shopping addiction who feel compelled to go shopping whenever they have the time or money, likewise, I feel compelled to read up on stocks whenever I have the time (which was why I built SGXcafe to gather as much useful information as I can find for my ease of reading) and buy them whenever I have the money.
However, I face a problem.
As I am someone who does not have a good memory, I often forget opinions/conclusions I form about stocks after reading up on them and sometimes cannot even recall why I made certain buy/sell decisions as well as any lessons that I learned.
My solution to this problem comes in the form of a new feature I added to SGXcafe where I can take notes and tag it to a stock or to a transaction or , or simply a general note so that I can always refresh my memory on why I chose certain actions or inactions, opinions/conclusions of stocks, as well as general lessons learned from my investments.
Google “keeping an investment journal” and you can find numerous articles on the benefits of an investment journal and what to write in one.
For me, I prefer to simply call it Notes in SGXcafe because I somehow feel that it is less intimidating. There is no pressure to write in it religiously like a journal; it is just to note down whatever comes to mind, whenever it does.
As usual, this is a simple first version that I would develop on more on should it turn out to be useful to me or others. Feel free to try it out and share with me your feedback on it!
Happy investing!
Cool! I have the same problem too although I am trying to solve this by putting notes in excel. Thanks for the effort and this platform is getting better and better~ Ever thought of extending this to overseas equity market? Coz I’m investing in KLCI too.
Hi hareame,
Actually, I have recently been thinking of incorporating US markets. Yet to decided to add in within SGXcafe or have a sister website though. But once I change the codes to be more general to extend for more than one stock exchange, it will become easier to include any new stock exchanges in future.
However, it is unlikely that KLCI will be ready in the near future 🙁
Evan
Hi Evan. No problem. Anything extra is a bonus. Cheers!
