Firstly, I would like to apologize to users who were affected by this “migration” last night and seeing errors on many StocksCafe pages. I was making a seemingly simple change, but is actually more complicated. I was making a database change for the field “shares quantity” from only accepting whole numbers (i.e. integers) to allow decimal values (i.e. floats). As integers and floats are considered different beasts (at least in Java), StocksCafe’s code needed to be significantly changed since “shares quantity” is used in numerous places.
It should be fine now, but please report if you see any issues.
The main motivation for this change was because it was requested by Friends of StocksCafe, and their reasoning is that with robo-advisor and regular share-buying schemes, partial shares are often being transacted. With the growing popularity of such approaches, it is only reasonable that StocksCafe also starts to support decimal values for shares quantity to keep up with times 🙂
Thank you all for continuously helping StocksCafe improve!
Happy investing!
