Many users use SGXcafe to track their dividends, and I have received suggestions regarding it. I am always happy to hear from users, and where possible, I do my best to implement them in SGXcafe. This weekend, I spent some time and worked on a few aspects related to dividends:
Dividend Projection
In Portfolio Report, I have added a feature that projects how much dividends you are likely to receive for the current year. It makes two main assumptions:
a) You will hold the same stocks and amounts until the end of the year, and
b) all stocks will give the same amount of dividends, on the same ExDate, as the previous year
Although these assumptions are unlikely to be true, this is an easy way to give an rough estimate of how much dividends you will receive for the whole year if your portfolio stays roughly the same. In future, I might add in more sophistication such as performing interval estimates (i.e. estimating a likely range) rather than current point estimate (i.e. estimating an absolute value).
Monthly Dividend Details
In Portfolio Report, there is a chart that shows you how much dividends you have collected over the years, broken down by month. Now, you can click on the bar and dividends collected for that month and year will be shown. It might be useful when you want to find out why this June’s dividend is so much lower than previous June, for example.
Apart from enhancements to dividends, I also made a couple of changes to other features:
Stock Summary
In SGXcafe, there is a note-keeping function where you can keep notes about companies. These notes were designed to hold short snippets of information that are time-sensitive. Hence the ability to have detailed and time-insensitive summary about a company has been requested by a user.
I have thus added a new feature called Stock Summary where you can write your own summary for each company (e.g. DBS). Please note that you can see this feature only if you are logged in.
SGXcafe iOS App Version Requirement Downgrade
Last week, SGXcafe released an iOS app. It requires iOS 9.2 and above, but based on features I used, it should only need iOS 8.0 and above. This was an oversight on my part, but I have already submitted a new version to Apple for approval which will reduce the requirement to iOS 8.0 and above. If you could not download it because of the version issue, it should be resolved soon.
I hope these improvements add even more value to you.
Happy investing!
The Dividend Projection is very useful! keep it up ^^
🙂
great job. loving the function!
Can I ask for an improvement to the already good Dividend Projection? A drilled down features will be good especially if we holds multiple dividend stocks.
You mean you want a breakdown of how the projections is being computed? That is a good idea!
Done 🙂 You can now see the breakdown of how the projections is being computed.
Nice. That way we can also judge ourselves if the projection is reliable.
your tool is great.
may i know how i can become a “Friend”?
coz i got “Only Friends of StocksCafe can update report more than once a day. ” message.
Hi thank you for your interest in becoming Friend of StocksCafe.
You can find more about it here -> https://stocks.cafe/help/support
Hi Evan, for this Dividend Projection, does it reflect the real dividend when the company announced it?
Sorry.. I just realized it will show the real dividend after the Ex-D date on the table on top of the Dividend Projection, under Dividends Collected.. Please ignore my message~~
Good job. loving the function forThe Dividend Projection
Hi Evan, your Dividend Projection function is great and I have been viewing it under the Reports section.
However is it possible to add another function to view it by Pay Date instead of Ex-D date for the projection monthly summary and full details?
Can you create a ticket for that? => https://stocks.cafe/friend/toaddissue
Thanks!
Sure, will do. Thanks!
