Custom Assets – FAQs

C

For those who may not know yet, you can actually track any asset you own using StocksCafe — even assets that are not listed on supported exchanges.

All you need to do is enter the price and dividends manually. Once that’s done, the asset will be included in your portfolio, allowing you to get a complete overview of all your assets in one place within StocksCafe.

Recently, we’ve received quite a number of questions about Custom Assets feature. It seems there’s a growing trend of users investing in assets that are not exchange-listed, such as funds and other private investments.

To help everyone — and also to avoid answering the same questions repeatedly — we’ve decided to consolidate all common questions and answers in one place. Hopefully, this will benefit existing users as well as newcomers who are exploring Custom Assets for the first time.

For simplicity, all links are provided for big screens, so please use a desktop or laptop when viewing them.

How to create and track Custom Assets

Let’s start with how to create Custom Assets. Adding any asset to your account only takes a few simple steps:

1) Define the custom asset
First, define a new custom asset on this page.
This creates the asset symbol in your account so it can be tracked in StocksCafe.

2) Input transactions
Next, input the transactions you’ve performed for this asset (e.g. buy or sell) on this page.

Note:
When you enter a transaction, the transaction price will automatically be added as the close price (EOD) for that day. And the number of shares bought/sold will be recorded as the volume for that day.
If this is not what you want, you can override the EOD price later (see Step 4).

3) Input dividends (if any)
You can add past or upcoming dividends by:

  • Clicking on the asset Symbol in the assets listing
  • Going to the “Dividend” tab

Note:
Custom Assets are only visible to you. Adding dividends via the “Dividend” tab or via “Dividend Override” works the same way.

4) Input EOD (End-of-Day) / Value
To update past or future asset values / close price:

  • Click on the asset Symbol in the assets listing
  • Go to the “Prices” tab
  • Enter the desired EOD (close) value via “+ Add New Price” or pencil icon if you want to edit existing values.

5) Recommendation
Ideally, track Custom Assets in a separate portfolio.
Since Custom Assets do not have daily prices (unless you manually update them), they may affect certain portfolio metrics such as performance and charts. Keeping them separate helps maintain cleaner and more accurate analytics.

FAQs

Q: Are Custom Assets private to me?
A: Yes. Custom Assets that you create, along with all related data, are only visible to you.

Q: Do Custom Assets auto-update?
A: No. All data for Custom Assets is manual.
This includes:

  • Close (EOD) prices
  • Dividends

You will need to update these yourself whenever there are changes.

Q: Why is the “Shares” column on the transaction page shown in red?
A: This can be safely ignored.
It appears in red when the volume recorded in the asset pricing page is lower than the transaction volume. This usually happens due to decimal place differences in the transaction volume.

If you wish to fix it, simply update the volume on the asset pricing page so that it at least as much as the transaction.

As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions via the forum regarding this feature.
I’ll continue updating this page as more questions come in.

Happy investing!
