A Quick Update

A

It has been a week since the survey. Thank you to all who responded to the survey.

The survey results are quite open to interpretation. If we simply look at the absolute number of people willing to pay to keep SGXcafe going, the logical choice would be to close SGXcafe as it is far from sufficient. However, if we look at the percentage of people willing to pay, it is quite encouraging as 42% of the people who took the survey is willing to support SGXcafe by paying a small monthly fee. In addition, only a fraction of users voted, so I can only guess where the votes of the remaining people would go.

The more heartening thing that happened as a result of the survey was that many people came forward to show their concern for SGXcafe. I sincerely thank each and every one of you. In particular, I want to specially thank Derek from TheFinance.sg who contacted me to pledge both monetary and ad space support on his own site in hopes of keeping SGXcafe going simply because he believes that it is a good tool for the community of retail investors. Thank you!

With so much support, I have decided to take the leap of faith and pay tens of thousands from my own savings to keep SGXcafe running, at least for one more year.

The next 2-3 weeks will be spent handling the administrative work of registering SGXcafe as a business and signing licensing agreements (no one wants to sign the licensing agreement with me as an individual). In the meantime, please continue to stay with SGXcafe!

  • You can consider adding a paypal/other e-payment link. Users unwilling to commit to a monthly fee can still do occasional contributions to defray your running costs.

  • hey evan, i really like your site and think you have done an excellent job. i might not commit to monthly payment as i do not check my portfolio regularly but i’m definitely willing to donate a lump sum every year to support your project.

  • Hi Zeckem, thanks. Sure. I will keep that in mind 🙂
Btw, SGXcafe have an auto email function where every trading day, updates regarding your portfolio will be emailed to you. All you need to do is make sure they do not go into the spam folder 🙂
